Sweater front

Here's a picture of the sweater front. This was completed before the sleeve, but not photographed until today. Color looks more blue than purple, but detail is goood. I've memorized the pattern so can work on it without consulting my charts.

I just finished my back for Janet Szabo's FLAK sweater and I'm ready for the next installment on Monday. The project is going quickly and is so much fun. Although I like the original design, I'm glad I made some changes, because now I feel more confident that in the future I'll be able to modify a sweater design instead of just following the pattern to the letter.

More movies to knit by: Enjoyed both Oliver Twist and The Pianist by Roman Polanski. Both DVDs have great special features about the making of these films.

Signed-up for Netflix to rent movies while knitting. Some movies have worked out to be perfect to knit by, some difficult, some impossible.

Impossible: Anything with subtitles.

The Happiness of the Katakuris by Japanese film maker Takashi Miike
This film would require complete attention, even without subtitles. A quirky musical about a family of innkeepers whose guests keep coming up dead. Forget about your knitting.

Difficult: Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind Stars Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet. Was billed as a romantic comedy, but I'd call it Sci-fi. In this movie, you can have painful memories erased from your mind. Jim decides to erase memories of Kate after finding out one morning that she's erased all memory of him. Events are not chronological and it takes most of the movie to figure out what's going on. The same screenwriter, Charlie Kaufman, wrote Being John Malkovich, so good luck knitting!

Perfect: If I'm knitting something I'm familiar with, only need to look down from time to time and can use minimal lighting at my chair. So far these movies have been great to knit by:

Ray Jamie Foxx is AWESOME if his portrayal of rhythm and blues legend Ray Charles. Watched it twice last weekend.

Finding Neverland - Story of author J.M. Barrie (Johnny Depp) . His relationship with a widdow (Kate Winslet) and four sons inspire the story and play Peter Pan.

March of the Penguins - Already love penguins - knowing more about how they live and survive in the Antarctic, made me love them all the more.

Alternate cables swatch

Here's pictures of some of the alternate cables I tried for the FLAK sweater.

Left cable -I tried cable 24.17 from Harmony Guides 220 Aran Stitches and Patterns. Really like it, but wanted a diamond shape cable for my cardigan.

Center cable - Cable 22.3 with moss stitch instead of the garter stitch in the Harmony Guide. Stitch looks nice between the wave cable and baby honeycomb cable from the flak.

Right cable - Continued cable 22.3 flanked by rope cables and a wave cable with bobbles. Plan to use this for the side cables on my cardigan front and back. Cable 22.3 + the rope cables for the saddle.

First FLAK Swatch

While awaiting the next installment of the FLAK, I did more swatching and have decided on some different cables that I'll be using. These will be posted in future blog entries.

Quilter's Sweater

When I saw the pattern for the Crayon Box Jacket by Chris Blysma, I just HAD to make it.

I saw that Chris was teaching a class at Stitches West in Feb 2006, but couldn't wait to make the sweater. I found a Yahoo group of other knitters all working on the same sweater. Got a lot of ideas and help from other participants.
